The Chang Hon Taekwon-Do Pattern Set
The name "Taekwon-Do" was given to our style of martial art by Grandmaster Choi Hong Hi, who created the original Taekwon-Do patterns.  Grandmaster Choi's pen name is Chang Hon (Blue Cottage) and the traditional patterns practiced are called the "Chang Hon" Pattern set.  There are a total of 25 patterns created by Grandmaster Choi Hong Hi.  Traditionally, twenty-four are practiced.  The number 24 is significant because it symbolizes the 24 hours in a day, and one day in a life is symbolic of one's whole life compared to eternity.  Before his death, General Choi replaced pattern Ko-Dang with pattern Juche in the 1980's as a political gesture in an effort to help unite his homeland of Korea.  Each pattern of the Chang Hon pattern set is symbolic of an event or a revered character from Korean history.
